This month we had our biggest amazon affiliate success so far on top of another 40% growth month for google search console clicks.

Welcome to Cooking with Carbs’ monthly Food Blog Income Reports. Today’s post will be the Food Blog Income and Blog Traffic Report for January 2022. Blog Traffic Report – Google Analytics Data Analysis

This section will be will contain a deep dive deeper into Google Analytics. In this post we will focus on the December Audience Overview, Traffic Source/Medium and Users sections.

For more information on where to find the relevant information in Google Analytics and definitions of relevant terms, refer to our First Food Blog Income Report.

It is important figure to note the number of blog posts on our site, as all of our upcoming traffic figures are tied to the amount of content on the site. This month we maintained our momentum at 5 new posts and finished the month with a total of 106 blog posts. We’re still targeting a long term target of around 8-9 posts per month as the year continues.

Users Overview for January 2022

January 2022 Acquisition Overview

The top channel breakdown for January is shifting slowly towards more organic and direct traffic, with 82.4% and 10.8% respectively. This growth comes at the expense of some referral traffic.

The graph below shows a strong growth in users over January, up 34% to 4452 users. Direct users grew significantly by 50% and organic users grew strongly by 40% as well.

Many of our specific numbers are stabilizing from month to month, specifically the number of sessions per user and pages per session at around 1.12 and 1.13 respectively. Unfortunately the bounce rate continues to increase from month to month, and was as low as 47% in February 2021 and now sits at 91.97%.

Our session numbers continue to have strong growth in January 2022, topping 5000 sessions for the first time at 5091 which was 35% growth over December’s total.

Food Blog Traffic Report: All Traffic Source/Medium for January 2022

The chart above is a good overview of how much traffic comes from each source, with organic and direct clearly being the largest two sources.

Pinterest has often been a small source of traffic and continues to be quite small with only 77 sessions referred, but this is a huge 1825% increase since December. Hopefully we can continue having strong Pinterest growth moving forward as many blogs have great success with pinterest.

Google Search Console Report: Search Query Analysis for January 2022

In this section we will explore the Google Search Console Search Results and Google Discover results for January 2022.

The above graph is a glimpse of our Google Search results (not including Discover) since the start of our blogging in Q1 of 2021. From this graph we can see that we’re now averaging about 120 clicks per day.

The above graph is a closer look at just December for Google Search results. Throughout the month we were steadily getting around over 120 clicks per day.

In addition to clicks, if we look at our average CTR and average position in the last month it is also improving from December, with an average CTR of 3% (up from 2.4%) and average position improving from 17.3 to 16.8.

Google Discover results were still strong this month and up from 187 to 268 in January.

This month we continued to get discover traffic from a post that was posted in May and also one from early December.

The google search growth has some strong momentum now, with back to back months with over 40% growth, as January experienced 42% growth in clicks. Discover results also had strong 43% growth this month.

Blog Social Media Report: Social Media Breakdown for January 2022

With the lack of instagram posting our instagram continues to lose a lot of followers with another 23 followers lost, but we do continue to grow modestly on Pinterest and facebook.

Food Blog Income Report for January 2022 – Expenses and Revenues

This month was our best month ever for amazon revenue, at $26.53. Unfortunately, a number of annual expenses resulted in a pretty significant loss for the month.

January 2022 Revenue Expenses

One-Time Expenses: $74.70

In the last few months we had been getting a bit bored with our food photos so we decided to buy a bunch of accessories this month including new plates, mugs, sugar bowls and other dishes.

Recurring Expenses: $800.19

Unfortunately this month we had a lot of annual recurring expenses on top of our usual Masterclass ($15) and Jetpack Backup ($9.95). The main annual expenses are listed below:

WPRM Pro Upgrade – $99
Bluehost – $45.96
KWFinder Mangools – $322.92

Revenue from January 2022

TOTAL REVENUES: $26.53

All of our revenue this month was from Amazon, and we were excited to have our best Amazon month in terms of revenue.

Short Term Goals – Start making Google Web Stories

Next month we hope to start making Google Web Stories. We’ve been hearing from a lot of other fellow bloggers that this could be a good source of traffic, so we will give it a try and aim to track the traffic in future income and traffic reports.

Long Term Goals:

No new goals here, but we continue to make progress on our SEO knowledge and food photography.

I found that the better my organic search results, the more Amazon profit for my site. I hope that will continue to be true for you, too! I’ll be curious how your Google web stories turn out.
