Despite slow revenue growth we continue to experience strong Google Organic growth at 20% from last month!
Welcome to Cooking with Carbs’ monthly Food Blog Income Reports. Today’s post will be the Food Blog Income and Blog Traffic Report for July 2022. The food related posts on this site are entirely written by Cooking with Carbs chef/recipe creator Anneke Silva, but the posts in the blogging section are be written by her husband Isuru.

Blog Traffic Report – Google Analytics Data Analysis
This section will be will contain a deep dive deeper into Google Analytics. In this post we will focus on the July Audience Overview, Traffic Source/Medium and Users sections.
We continue to track the total number of posts finishing each month as this is strongly tied to total traffic. This month we had 2 new posts and finished the month with a total of 123 blog posts.
Users Overview for July 2022
Organic search took a huge leap this month up from about 82% in June to almost 91% in July. This was driven by significant growth in organic clicks this month, as we will see later..
The total number of users increased by a fair bit this month, 7% growth up to 5439. This growth was driving by a large growth in organic users at 20% and social users by 14%.
Blog Traffic Report: Audience Overview for July 2022
Our overall metrics in July were fairly similar to previous months. Our sessions per user and pages/session both consistent at around 1.10. Our bounce rate continues to be fairly high at 92.41% and average duration somewhat low at 32 seconds.
Similar to our Total Users, the Total Sessions was also up 7% and exceeded 6000 for the first time ever, at 6008. There was much more emphasis on new users this month, with 99% new users and 92% new visitors compared to 95% and 89% respectively last month.
Food Blog Traffic Report: All Traffic Source/Medium for July 2022
Most of our traffic came from the usual sources this month, with the only surprising result being an unfamiliar referral from a site called insanelygoodrecipes.
Pinterest surprisingly went up 23% this month despite very minimal efforts on our part with pinterest. It would be nice if the many pins we created in our first year started driving some traffic!
Foodgawker was also up 21% this month which is mostly surprising since we only had 2 blog posts and it’s normally highly correlated to the number of food posts as each food post also had a foodgawker post.
Google Search Console Report: Search Query Analysis for July 2022
In this section we will explore the Google Search Console Search Results and Google Discover results for July 2022.
Google Search Console – Search Results
The above graph shows our Google Search results over the last 12 months. The 12 month average of our CTR and average position continue to be pretty consistent or improving. Our average CTR is consistently at 3% and our average position has improved slightly from 16.8 to 16.6.
The trends from the last month are consistent to those seen over the year, with stable CTR at 3.2% and slight improvement in average position down to 15.9.
Google Search Console – Google Discover Results
Google Discover traffic was low once again this month and continued to drop further down to 73 clicks, from 78 the prior month.
Overall Google Results
Given the lack of time we’ve had to focus on new blog posts it’s not surprising that we’ve continued to have minimal time on google web stories either.
Our overall growth in google clicks has been strong from month over month, with over 15% increase in google search impressions and over 20% improvement in clicks.
Unfortunately our google discover progress has been declining as this is correlated with our blog post output, which has been quite low. Google discover clicks were down 7% in July.
Blog Social Media Report: Social Media Breakdown for July 2022
This month we returned to some gain in Pinterest and Facebook, each gaining 2 followers, but Instagram went down by another 21 followers.
Year Over Year Results: July 2021 to July 2022
As we move into July and the latter half of the year, it will be interesting to see what seasonal impact we see in year over year trends.
As of July 2022 our total number of blog posts has gone up 58%, our total users up 213% and our total sessions up 144% from where we were in July 2021. Total Google clicks also had large gains up 859% but this will slow down as the starting clicks stop being so low.

No one time expenses this month.
Recurring Expenses: $24.95
Our recurring expenses returned to normal this month, with only two: our usual monthly Masterclass ($15) and Jetpack Backup ($9.95).

After some modest revenue last month, we returned to $0 this month.
